Lizard canaries are believed to have been brought to Britain by Huguenot refugees. Breeders enhanced the color of these bird so that by 1742 spangled canaries with dark wings and tails and a spot on the head called a cap were described in detail.
Harold Sodamann brought his first Lizard canaries in from England in 1953 and were purchased from Mr. Fred Snelling. If you raise Lizard canaries in the US today, it is a safe bet that you have some of Harold's blood line in your stock! (Harold's photo taken at the seminar!)
