Brian Byrne, Two Harp Aviaries, exhibited this Irish Fancy Canary, the first ever US showing, at the Suncoast Canary & Finch Show in Florida. Competing against 180 type birds, Judge Armando Lee placed the white cock third, beating out strong hold breeds like Norwich, Northern Dutch, and Lizards!!!
Judge Lee gave great words of encouragement regarding the bird's quality and its show training and wished the new breed well. The Irish Fancy will also be exhibited at the upcoming shows in Miami and Orlando. Congratulation Brian on your impressive win!!
The Irish Fancy originated in Ireland in 1974 from rollers and was originally called Irish Roller but shown as a type bird. By 1978, the bred was called Irish Fancy and eventually the bred was recognized by the COM. Brian and Paul Cruise imported several pairs last year and are working to establish the Irish bred in the US.
